Almost exactly 20 years ago now, Eminem released a song called ‘Stan’ which was about a crazy fan that took to extreme measures just to get the attention of the rapper. Today, it is revealed, that Eminem confronted a real-life ‘Stan’ in his very own home.

Earlier this month, Eminem came face-to-face with a home intruder, who somehow managed to slip past security at his house, according to TMZ.
The intruder is a 26-year-old man named Matthew David Hughes. There were reports that Eminem’s security team were “sleeping” on the job, but those accounts have been redacted as the sources meant that word figuratively.
Hughes managed to enter Eminem’s house through the back of the property, allegedly using a paving stone to break through a window that led to the kitchen. The intruder reportedly triggered the alarm to go off at around 4 am, where Eminem discovered him in his living room.
Funnily enough, despite breaking-and-entering, the intruder didn’t steal anything from Eminem’s home, he simply wanted to meet the rapper face-to-face. Sound familiar? If this isn’t the song ‘Stan’ being brought to life, we simply don’t know what is.
A representative for Marshall Mathers told XXL magazine that Eminem was the person that detained the intruder until police showed up. So there you go, it looks like the intruder got his wish after all. Although we’re not sure if the circumstances were ideal for him.
According to reports, Matthew David Hughes was held on a $50,000 USD bond in Macomb County Jail for home invasion and malicious destruction of a building.

Given Eminem’s ‘Stan’ was written by the emcee and based on true experiences, we can’t say we didn’t see this coming. It’s just shocking that it happened 20 years later.
