Naomi Osaka's Not Holding Back On People Telling Her 'Athletes Should Stick To Sports'

An ace followed by a smash.

Tennis superstar and all-around legend Naomi Osaka is one of the many celebrities who have been using their platform to share support for the George Floyd protests and she’s been quite vocal about it on Twitter.

Unsurprisingly, some folks aren’t too happy when a big-name athlete like Naomi Osaka speaks up about big issues like racism and rather she just “stick to sports.” Happily, Naomi is having none of that sort of nonsense and has gone out of her way to give those close-minded people a good roasting on Twitter.

The GOAT team talk about Black Lives Matter and the George Floyd protests on ‘It’s Been A Big Day For…’ below:

Having spent the past week showing her support for the George Floyd protests and Black Lives Matters, Naomi Osaka took time out from sharing useful information and raising awareness to roast some dude who thought now’s the right time to tell her that “sports and politics do not mix.”

After that surprisingly nice yet pointed clapback, Naomi then went on to drag everyone else who has or has thought about telling to to “stick to sports” instead of speaking up about the George Floyd protests.

This time she wasn’t quite so nice about it.

Naomi is right on the money with her response. Yes she’s an athlete, but telling her to “stick to sports” is dehumanising and just as insulting as having some male journo asking her about shopping and smiling.

She’s a human with opinions, not something with the sole purpose of entertaining people, and she’s welcome to share her opinions. If anything, those with a big platform like Naomi’s should be using it to amplify messages of support for Black Lives Matter and the protests.

And it’s not like Naomi Osaka has been posting offensive or tone-deaf statements on Twitter either. She’s been sharing information on how to support the George Floyd protests, naming and shaming certain brands that have sent out disingenuous messages of support, and calling out instances of racism.

We love it when Naomi Osaka is bringing the heat on the tennis court, but we love it even more when she is speaking out about racism on Twitter and is not holding back on those close-minded folk who have an issue with an athlete who just won’t “stick to sports”.
