Katy Perry, Madonna And More Are Getting Hoaxed By Those Italian Balcony Singers

Music makes the people come together.

The Coronavirus disease may have sent Italy into lockdown, but the Italians are making sure that doesn’t get in the way of their positive morale. From Naples in the south to Turin in the north, apartment residents are singing, dancing and even DJing from their balconies, in an effort to stay positive in this rapidly evolving time.

Videos of these residents have found their way to Twitter and are being shared with millions across the globe, sparking a trend that’s now popping up in Spain and Sweden. But, these clips have also found their way into the hands of stan Twitter which means celebrities are copping the brunt of it.

We are all Katy Perry at this moment.

Within hours of these videos popping up, fans have been dubbing the clip with live recordings of their favourite artists. So, while some celebrities are using social media to try and calm us down, some are unknowingly spreading hoax videos.

Same Katy Perry, same.

Katy Perry was the first to fall for this prank. The video posted above was dubbed with a live recording of Katy Perry’s “Roar” and re-shared by one Twitter user. Katy Perry has since retweeted the fake clip, saying “You cannot break the human spirit. We are one in this.” Yikes.

But, she’s not the only pop singer to fall for this. The queen of pop, Madonna, has also shared a fake clip, but one that was subbed with her live vocals of her 2019 single, “I Rise”. The music legend said, “Let Us All RISE UP. everywhere around the world!!”

The original clip actually sees the city of Turin dance to the “Macarena” on their balconies.

Additionally, British singer Cheryl Cole fell for the hoax when a clip was dubbed with her cult-favourite song, “Fight For This Love”. However, the Tweet that Cheryl retweeted and said “I’m not crying” to, has since been taken down.

There you have it. Look, they may not be singing songs by your favourite artists, but they’re keeping their morale high and for that, we have to stan. Stay strong Italy!
