Kanye Announces He's Running For President And Can 2020 Calm Down?

Is he too late, though?

In true 2020 style, Kanye West has decided to shock the planet by announcing today (in the final hours of July 4th in America) that he will be running for President of The United States.

Yes, he’s talking about the 2020 race. No, we’re not sure if he’s being serious or not.

The rapper, who was once pretty cosy with old mate Donald Trump, took to Twitter only hours ago to tell the world:

“We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future. I am running for president of the United States! #2020VISION”

Ever the supportive wife, Kim Kardashian West (the would-be first lady, my friends) retweeted the announcement, simply adding an emoji of the American flag to the tweet.

Twitter shared that while Ye is too late to add his name to the ballot in certain states, he is certainly still able to run this year.

West’s orange-wearing buddy, Elon Musk, was quick to share his support of the campaign, but the general consensus on the internet is a resounding “huh?”

While this is certainly a surprise for most people, this is not the first time Kanye has mentioned running for Prez. As The Hollywood Reporter shares, he did say in November that he would be running in 2024.

At Fast Company‘s Innovation Festival he told audiences:

“When I run for President in 2024,” he started, before being interrupted by laughter.

“What y’all laughing at? We would create so many jobs! I’m not going to run, I’m going to walk. When you see headlines saying Kanye’s crazy — one in three African Americans are in jail and all the celebrities are in jail also because they can’t say nothing, they got no opinion, they’re so scared!”

So, I guess it’s happening? Maybe?

Honestly, at this point, Martians could land on Earth and ask me for directions and I’d just shrug.

I’m unsure, Kanye. Credit: E!
