When you think about it, TikTok couldn’t have exploded into our lives and onto our screens at a better time. Stuck in isolation, away from family and friends, it provides lighthearted entertainment and interesting life hacks – not to mention a lot of laughs. One person who has really taken to TikTok during these challenging times is actress Judi Dench – who recently said the app “saved her life.” Hear all the details below:
In a recent interview with Channel 4 News, the Dame said “I know nothing about TikTok,” she said, admitting her grandson Sam is responsible for making her go viral on the app. “I had to rehearse all those moves.”
She said, during the pandemic, “everyday is so uncharted. You wake up and you wonder what day it is, and then you wonder what date it is and sometimes what month. And then you think, ‘Well, what do I do today?’”
Dench said she’s been passing the time by learning Shakespeare sonnets, painting and talking to friends – but most excitingly, she’s been “rehearsing her TikTok with Sam, and dance.”
If you haven’t seen Dench’s TikTok videos yet, you’re in for a real treat. In one, featuring grandson Sam, the iconic actress sways her hips to the viral ‘Laxed (Siren Beat)’ track and in another the duo dance (via iPad) to ‘Cheryl’ by rapper Yung Gravy.
It’s really no surprise Judi Dench has become the unlikely hero of TikTok – she’s known for being quite the sassy queen. Last year, fellow actress Emily Blunt revealed that she “could’ve been the next Britney [Spears]” if it weren’t for Dench’s words of wisdom.
“I went to [Dench] for advice because I was really, really nervous about this career,” Blunt told Jimmy Kimmel. “And she was like, ‘Oh no, darling. You can’t do both. You can’t act and do that.’ She talked me out of it.”
It’s tough love, but ultimately some great advice considering Blunt went on to become a major Hollywood star.
