Jenna Marbles Quits Her YouTube Channel After Racist Allegations

Another day, another YouTuber scandal.

It seems like there’s a new YouTuber scandal popping up each day, doesn’t it? The person on the chopping block today is none other than YouTube powerhouse Jenna Mourey (aka Jenna Marbles), who has issued an apology for some old racist videos before revealing plans to quit her ridiculously popular channel.

Speaking of apologies, the GOAT team talk about how we all owe Megan Fox one on ‘It’s Been A Big Day For…’ below:

In a video titled ‘A Message’, Jenna Marbles says she’s been copping a heap of backlash over a bunch of old videos that some people have deemed to be racist and offensive. She talks about a number of now-private videos filmed back in 2011, including one where she wears blackface and another where she uses slurs to mock Asians.

Jenna calls the blackface video “cringy and embarrassing”, stating that “It was not my intention to do blackface … but all that matters is that people were offended and it hurt them.”

Pointing out how people are being held accountable more than ever today, the YouTuber states that “This isn’t okay, and it hasn’t existed on the internet, because it isn’t okay. I haven’t done anything remotely like that, because I heard people say ‘this is blackface’ and ‘I don’t like that.”’

After apologising for her old racist videos, Jenna Marbles also shares a third apology over another video about slut-shaming and how it shoehorned in harmful gender-binary stereotypes, saying “I don’t think making jokes about your gender is funny. I know there’s a lot of people that struggle with their identity or have varying, fluid identities.”

At the end of her apology video, Jenna states it will be the last piece of new content on her “Jenna Marbles” YouTube channel as she plans to quit the platform, saying “I think I’m just gonna move on from this channel for now … I want to make sure the things I put out into the world are not hurting anyone.”

For those few who may be unaware of who Jenna Marbles is, she’s been one of the top YouTube creators for nearly a decade and first rose to fame with the viral video titled ‘How To Trick people Into Thinking You’re Good Looking‘, which has been watched over 69 million times.

At the time of writing, she has (and will be walking away from) 23 million subscribers which is *checks notes* a lot, but she’ll likely be perfectly fine without her YouTube channel seeing as how she has said in the past that she has “more money than [she needs], ever.

And with that we say goodbye (for now) to a big-time YouTuber whose past has come back to bite them in the arse. But hey, hudos to Jenna Mourey to taking responsibility for her old videos and copping to all the criticism.

It’s been hard for celebrities to apologise for some of the shitty things they’ve done these days but Jenna’s is definitely one of the better ones.
