Jake Paul Is Dangerously Misinformed About Anxiety Disorders

What an idiot.

Let’s get this out of the way first up: Jake Paul is a frigging moron. I’m pretty sure I’m preaching to the choir here with that little fact given how his whole career is built entirely on him being an idiot on YouTube, but it bears repeating due to his latest moronic act.

Speaking of YouTubers, the GOAT team talk about David Dobrik on ‘It’s Been A Big Day For…’ below:

Here’s what’s happened: Jake’s taken a sip from the same dipshit pool his brother Logan did during that suicide video debacle because he’s gone and tweeted something dangerously misinformed about anxiety disorders.

Without any prompting, Jake Paul thought it was a good idea to share his nuggets of wisdom on how to manage one’s anxiety. Now there’s no issue with doing something like is provided that the information shared is accurate and helped.

In this case, Jake Paul seems to have pulled the “advice” from his arse as his anxiety “tips” are not only unhelpful but verge worryingly into dangerous territory.

Uh huh, righto mate. Anxiety is totally created by “you” and the best way to handle it is to *checks tweet* “chill your mind out”, “go for a walk”, and “talk to a friend.”

What a frigging idiot. This is like saying “don’t be sad, just be happy” to people suffering from depression.

Let’s nip this bit of false information in the bud right away. Anxiety is NOT created by you or something that people make up in their heads. It’s a very real disorder that’s caused by a combination of factors, including a person’s family history of mental health conditions, personality traits, external events causing stress, physical health problems, substance use, and other mental health conditions.

Combine this inaccurate piece of misinformation with a fanbase of easily-swayed young people numbering well into the millions (13 million on Instagram and 3.7 million on Twitter), and what you end up with is some pillock of a YouTuber teaching wrong things about mental health to uninformed kids. It’s not just irresponsible, it’s dangerous.

Needless to say that the internet gave Jake Paul a much-deserved roasting that’ll make a turkey cringe:

It’s one thing to plug an extremely dodgy online course on how to become a famous influencer, but it’s another to share misinformation about anxiety to millions of easily-impressionable youths who don’t know better. Stick to being an idiot on YouTube or getting beat up in the boxing ring, Jake Paul. Maybe go for a walk, chill your mind out, or talk to a friend, champ.
