Is Now The Right Time To Launch An Influencer Reality Show, James Charles?

Sister shook.

It’s been a very rough week for James Charles. Just a few days ago the vlogger engaged in a full-on fight with RuPaul’s Drag Race alumni Trinity The Tuck after a COVID-19-inspired joke. You would think the YouTuber would take a bit of time out of the spotlight, but no, he’s back and here with a huge announcement.

With over 17 million subscribers, James Charles is easily one of the most followed beauty gurus in the game right now. As a result, it looks as if he’s trying to leverage his reputation and launch a competition series to find the next ‘influencer’.

The show is called ‘Instant Influencer’ and will be able to stream on YouTube on April 24. Joining the YouTube Originals lineup, it will sit alongside The Age of A.I., BookTube and the Michelle Obama-assisted, Girls’ Education.

James Charles has previously announced he was working on this series back in November 2019. Since then we’ve known that the series will showcase upcoming makeup artists competing against each other for the chance to win a $500,000 USD cash prize.

Not only has this make-up guru made the jump from vlogging to hosting, but James Charles also executive produces and directs a little bit on this project too. The episodes will be uploaded weekly and will feature special guests and industry experts.

James Charles shared his own excitement for the upcoming project Instagramming a promo shot and captioning, “I am so excited to FINALLY announce my very own show, (Instant Influencer) will be streaming on a (YouTube) screen near you for FREE starting April 24th. This project has been a dream come true and I cannot wait for you all to see all of the hard work that went into it… Blend, but don’t blend in.”

But, we have to ask is now the right time to launch a new show?

Many celebrities in the spotlight have been forced to delay their projects as a result of COVID-19 concerns. Albums have been delayed, such as Lady Gaga’s Chromatica, and concerts have been pushed back, such as Justin Bieber’s Changes Tour. But, maybe this show makes sense. We’ve certainly seen a rise in the need for DIY content recently, also we’re consuming a lot more content now that we’re indoors a lot, so perhaps this show will actually do very well. Only time will tell!
