I Know We Love Baby Yoda, But I Can't Cope With Baby Jabba

Competition, Baby Yoda has.

Most people have finished watching The Mandalorian by now, and as it starts to fade out of our consciousness one thing stays: Baby Yoda. We all love The Child, but he may now have some competition in the form of Baby Jabba.

Jabba the Hutt isn’t the sort of character you’d generally think of as cute, especially in a franchise like Star Wars that also has creatures like Porgs and Ewoks. Honestly, adult Jabba is downright gross.

Enter a piece of fan art that might (might?) change your mind about Jabba completely. Created by 3D character-development artist Leonardo Viti, and first published in November last year, this version of Baby Jabba has blown up over the last 24 hours. Here’s Baby Jabba in all of his tiny, chubby, slug-like glory.

He’s adorable, and I’ll admit that a part of me does love him, but a bigger part of me isn’t sure I can handle another Baby Yoda moment. Baby Yoda was inescapable, it got to the point that we were all collectively sobbing every time his little face came up on our screens. Even your Sims could get their own Baby Yoda statue.

It was an emotional ride, and I’m not too sure I have the energy to go through it again.

There have been other imaginings of Baby Jabba, and not all of them have been quite as delightful as Leonardo Viti’s. This one from artist Saby Menyhei is a more film-accurate version complete with a Leia doll.

Thankfully for me and my emotions, Baby Jabba isn’t an official part of the Star Wars universe. Unless Disney decides to pull a stunt similar to the one they pulled with Baby Yoda and not let anybody know about him until his screen debut, we’re safe.
