Ahh, celebrity age gaps. They seem to make headlines on a weekly basis and attract a fair amount of debate each time. The latest age gap to face public scrutiny is that of model Cara Delevingne and her rumoured girlfriend, Kaia Gerber.
This week, Delevingne and Gerber attended a Black Lives Matter protest in Los Angeles.
Fans were quick to post their paparazzi photos on social media and speculate whether Gerber and Delevingne have taken their friendship to the next level. However, there were a decent chunk of spectators who raised concerns about their age gap – Gerber is 18 years old and Delevingne is 27.
One user tweeted, “27 year old Cara Delevingne possibly dating 18 year old Kaia Gerber doesn’t sit right with me at all,” and another posted, “anyone else think it’s odd how Cara Delevingne met Kaia Gerber when she was 14, and now Cara is pushing 30 and Kaia is only newly an adult.”
“And regardless if they’re together or not, everyone’s shipping them? I’m not trying to be THAT bitch but I am surprised people aren’t shocked?” they added.
It’s worth noting that neither Kaia Gerber nor Cara Delevingne have confirmed that they’re in a romantic relationship and could definitely just be friends. However, their age gap seems to be dominating much of the social media conversation around paparazzi photos of the pair.

Gerber and Delevingne’s age difference isn’t the only one to face recent criticism. Little Women actress Florence Pugh has spent the best part of 2020 fighting off cruel trolls slamming her age gap with boyfriend Zach Braff – Braff is 45 years old, and Pugh is 24.
During a recent appearance on the Sue Perkins: An Hour or So With…podcast, Pugh said, “I’ve always found it funny, how I can be good enough for people to watch my work and support my work and pay for tickets, and I’m old enough to be an adult and pay taxes, but I’m not old enough to know who I should and should not have sex with,” Pugh said.
“Yet, once again, it’s making a young woman feel like shit for no reason,” she added.
Florence Pugh has a point – without really knowing someone, the details of their private life or – in the case of Kaia Gerber and Cara Delevingne – the very nature of their relationship, is it up to us to judge?
