Anna Wintour Threw Shade At Melania Trump And Crowned Michelle Obama As Queen In One Fell Swoop

A mood.

Anna Wintour has absolutely zero tolerance for beating around the bush. I mean, she wasn’t the alleged inspiration for Meryl Streep’s character in The Devil Wears Prada for nothing.

Wintour’s recent interview on The Economist’s podcast was no exception, especially the moment when she threw high fashion shade at Melania Trump and praised former FLOTUS Michelle Obama in one fell swoop.

During a conversation about politics and fashion, interviewer Anne McElvoy suggested President Trump dresses “deliberately off trend,” while Melania is “…much more put together.” She also noted that Melania had made an effort to wear British designers during a recent trip to the UK, and asked Wintour if she “valued that.”

Safe to say, Wintour wasn’t having it.

“I think the first lady Michelle Obama really was so incredible. In every decision she made about fashion” Wintour said, completely side-stepping any mention of Melania. “She supported young American designers, she supported designers indeed from all over the world. She was the best ambassador that this country could possibly have in many ways way beyond fashion.”

McElvoy said, “but she’s not the first lady now, so what about the one that you’ve got now?” and Wintour simple responded, “To me, she is the example that I admire.”

Wow. I’m not the only one who was living for the shade, either:

It’s not the first time Wintour has proven herself as the personification of not giving an eff. During a segment on The Late Late Show with James Corden in 2017, Wintour was asked who she would “never invite back to the Met Gala.” To avoid having to eat something disgusting, Wintour said, “Donald Trump.”

And just this year, the Vogue icon even threw subtle, yet polite, shade at the Kardashians when she was asked what she thinks of the famous family. “You have to admire how they’ve created an empire though their personalities, and the creative genius of their mother. And how they live the way they do. I cannot possibly understand or fathom living so much in the public eye, but obviously it works.”

Sounds like Anna Wintour will always speak her mind, and if it means crowning Michelle Obama reigning queen, we’re here for it.
