Pokémon: The First Movie: Mewtwo Strikes Back is one of the most important films ever made and I won’t hear otherwise. It shaped many of our childhoods and frankly, it’s sadder, more impactful and beautiful than all of Disney’s back catalogue combined.
I can’t do this again.
Which is why we were skeptical when they announced a 20-year anniversary shot for shot, CGI remake of the film called Pokémon: Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution. Like honestly, how could you?! It’s perfect as is and we were worried but we finally have our first *real* look and wow.
Ditto.
The movie looks beautifully animated and the character models are, for the most, pretty faithful but we’d be lying if we said this didn’t look a bit too clean, kind of like they’re toys? Anyway, we’re cautiously optimistic that this will turn out to be really good and by really good, we mean it has you crying in a ball at the end.
