The Super Realistic Lickitung From Detective Pikachu Is The Stuff Of Nightmares

Mom, can you pick me up? I'm scared.

A new TV spot for Detective Pikachu was released overnight, and you know what that means: new footage of terrifyingly-realistic Pokémon to keep you awake at night! Yay!

The clip gives us close-up looks at Bulbasaur, Charizard, Mr Mime (again), Pikachu (obviously) and, most disturbingly, Lickitung, the pink Pokémon with a giant tongue that uses it to lick people/Pokémon/things.

While everyone agrees that realistic-Bulbasaur looks incredibly cute, people are divided in their responses to realistic-Lickitung.

Ok. I’ve been putting it off for long enough. Without further ado, I present to you: Lickitung, Detective Pikachu edition.

And again.

I think the thing that makes it so creepy is the wet tongue. The rational part of my brain knows that it makes sense for his tongue to be wet, but it’s significantly less creepy in cartoon form, regardless of what this Twitter user says:

There’s a reason we largely keep our tongues inside our mouths: they’re weird to look at for too long.

It’s even worse in GIF form, by the way:

I just wish I shared other people’s enthusiasm for this disturbing creature.

Which other Pokémon are going to be ruined for me before Detective Pikachu is released in theatres?

Do not ruin Chansey for me, you monsters. Don’t do it.
