Things are heating up in Hong Kong – or rather the lack of. It seems that the online community in China has rallied around the protests in Hong Kong with two of the major local porn distributors temporarily shutting down during the protests.
With more than two million people taking to the streets to protest the proposed bill that would see Hong Kong residents extradited to mainland China for prosecution, the online community is also showing its support.
Major pornography site ThisAV.com has reportedly changed the homepage of the site to a crudely written message addressed at the Hong Kong officials. The message makes various references to genitals and uses a range of colourful terms.
This follows an earlier message the site hosted in which it encouraged visitors to the site to attend the protests instead of just “jerking off at home”.
AVO1, another porn site popular in Hong Kong, suspended operations on June 11 following a wave of businesses all striking in protest of the extradition bill.
“Do you want to live the rest of your life looking over your shoulder?,” read the AV01 home page. “There will be no more safe place or security. The government has failed you, the system has failed you, the society has failed you, do you want to fail yourself?”
This isn’t the first time that the porn industry has supported Hong Kong during major protests. Back in 1989, during the student protests that led to the Tiananmen Square Massacre, a popular adult magazine called Lung Fu Pao donated all its proceeds to the movement at the time.
Nothing motivates people more than taking away their porn.
