One Nation Caught Seeking Millions From US Pro-Gun Groups In Plans To Help Roll Back Australian Gun Laws

The covert recordings reveal that relaxing Australia's gun laws is a priority for One Nation.

Pauline Hanson’s One Nation party were lobbying the National Rifle Association of America (NRA) for millions of dollars in funding in order to roll back Australia’s gun control laws, an explosive report reveals.

One Nation chief of staff James Ashby and Queensland branch chief Steve Dickson were recorded liaising with NRA members in a two-part undercover investigation by Al Jazeera network showcased in their documentary, How To Sell A Massacre.

One Nation Queensland leader Steve Dickson in Washington, DC, in 2018.

The covertly recorded meetings reveal the One Nation representatives in in discussions about changing Australia’s laws banning automatic and semi-automatic weapons with members of the powerful US gun lobby. One Nation was seeking funding to help the party “own” Australia’s Federal Parliament.

During a visit to Washington, DC, in September 2018, Mr Dickson told NRA members,

“If we don’t change things, people are going to be looking at Australia and go ‘Well, it’s OK for them to go down the path of not having guns, it’s OK for them to go down that politically-correct path.’ And it’s like a poison – it will poison us all unless we stop it.”

“We get the balance of power, very simply that means that we have the testicles of the Government in our hand at every given stage,” Mr Dickson said.

Mr Ashby is recorded saying that securing $US20 million in donations to One Nation from American pro-gun groups would give the party greater parliamentary power in Australia.

“If you had 20 [$US20 million], you would own the Lower House and the Upper House.” he said.

The ABC reports that One Nation and the NRA declined to respond to Al Jazeera about the findings in its documentary, which airs on ABC TV on Tuesday 26 March and Thursday 28 March at 8pm.

One Nation have released a public statement that targets Al Jazeera, calling it an illegitimate media organisation that supports Islamic extremist groups. Al Jazeera is actually an esteemed government-funded outlet, and the lengthy recorded findings of the undercover investigation are extremely damning for One Nation.
