Is Karen From Dead To Me A Way More Important Character Than We First Thought?

This theory suggests she is!

Warning: This post contains spoilers for Dead To Me’s season one finale.

Netflix’s new series Dead To Me is one of the best new shows on the streaming service at the moment.

Fans of the show know season one ended on quite the cliffhanger and we’re dying to know what happens next.

Theories are beginning to flood the Internet as more and more people binge the dark comedy and this one has us quite interested.

One fan has taken to Reddit to suggest it was Karen (AKA Mexian Lasagne Lady) who shot Steve at the end of season one.

It was super random how after meeting Karen in the first episode she returned at the end of the season, but Reddit user Maryssmith believes this must be a signal that Karen will play an important role in season two (should we actually get a season two, that is!).

Karen is the first character we meet as she gives Jen her “take on Mexican lasagne” and perhaps that’s a hint that she’s more important than we give her credit for.

While some fans think Charlie, Jen’s son, shot Steve, it doesn’t really make sense given Nick took the gun from him and he wouldn’t have had easy access to a gun to shoot Steve with. Also, based on the way Steve is floating in the pool, someone had to shoot him from behind and it just doesn’t work for Charlie to have come from inside the house, in front of Charlie, only to go behind him and shoot him.

Karen was at Jen’s house before Steve came over, she also loves security systems and guns which she tells Jen before Steve dies. Karen probably would have been interested to see Jen’s security system going off when Charlie first came home. So, the theory is that Karen heard the alarm, snuck back to see what was happening with her gun, and sees the face-off between Steven and Jen and shoots him.

The Redditor writes, “Mexican Lasagna Lady spends the episode talking about how she’s a home security nerd who has lived near the Hardings for eight years. She nerds out on all the security that Jen has installed.

“This sets her up to be useful as hell because one thing that is of note is that Jen has, unintentionally, just documented Steve’s death by having set up 8 trillion cameras all over her property.

“Cameras that likely stream to security companies. Footage that will need to be erased. She’s in real estate. Judy’s an assisted living facility’s activities coordinator. The two of them don’t know the first thing about anything technical– but Karen does.”

They went on to add, “The show will continue to have Jen and Judy try to solve the puzzle that was Ted’s life, they’re going to need to acquire more information over time.

“We learn in the finale that Karen has lived next door to the Hardings for eight years. It’s entirely possible that she knows more about Ted than we think she does. She was there while he was a stay-at-home dad. Glancing out her window, she probably saw more of Ted accidentally than Jen did intentionally.

“They might not even have to take Karen’s word for it as, since she’s revealed to be a home security nut, there might be a camera or two pointed in a direction that overlaps with the Hardings’ property. Depending on how much the show wants to keep Carmen Sandiego-ing Ted, we could see his face eventually on one of them (or his profile and a ‘that’s Ted’ from Jen– lol) and find out some more information, courtesy of Karen.”

Karen’s starting to sound pretty damn important!

Honestly, if Netflix doesn’t renew Dead To Me we don’t know what we’ll do…
