This First Look At Natalie Portman's Mighty Thor Isn't What We Expected

It's a little different to what we pictured!

One of the biggest reveals at San Diego Comic-Con 2019 was that Natalie Portman would be returning to the MCU to star in Thor: Love and Thunder, but not just as Thor’s love interest, this time she’ll be Mighty Thor.

While appearing on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, the host shared a tongue-in-cheek first look at Portman as Mighty Thor, and it looks a lot like Chris Hemsworth’s Thor.

DeGeneres asked the actress if she’ll have to work out for the role, joking that she’s “a very slight Lady Thor”.

“I’m assuming I will have to work out, but I’m just gonna wait until they make – I’ll be eating my burritos till they’re like, calling me to the gym,” Portman responded.

It was then that the host unveiled the “exclusive photo” of what Natalie will look like in the role. And it’s… a lot!

“The goatee is so good, thank you,” Portman laughed at the snap of her face added to Hemsworth’s body.

Ellen added, “They said you had to have facial hair for this.”

Watch the moment here:

Portman recently revealed why she was a no-show in Thor: Ragnarok, which many people thought was down to a feud with Marvel after they fired Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins from Thor: The Dark World.

But it turns out it was a much simpler reason.

Speaking with ET, she said, “They came to me. Obviously I wasn’t written into the third Thor because of where it took place.

“It wasn’t really on Earth and my character was on Earth. And then they came to me with the fourth idea and said, you know, ‘We have this idea, that was a storyline in some of the comics, where Jane becomes Lady Thor.’ And I was like, this is very exciting.

“And also of course with Taika [Waititi], and I love Tessa [Thompson] and Chris so much. So it’s exciting to get to work with them again. And yeah, I’m very excited to wield the hammer.”

It makes a lot of sense, Thor didn’t really have much reason to see Jane in the last movie, but we’re super keen to see how Jane becomes Mighty Thor in the next film.

Thor: Love and Thunder is set for release on November 5, 2021
