Never Forget: The Weird Love/Hate Relationship Louis Tomlinson And Zayn Malik Have

Tom and Jerry's relationship makes more sense than whatever is going on between these two.

When you’ve known and worked with each other in the music business as long as Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik have, you’d think that there they’d be BFFs given everything they’ve been through together, not to mention how they’re probably the only few people in the world to completely understand what each other has been through during their One Direction days.

As it turns out, the pair’s relationship has more twists and turns than a rollercoaster ride.

When the pair were still in One Direction, Louis and Zayn were pretty close pals by all accounts, even when Zayn quit the band to do his own thing.

But things took an unexpected turn for the weird when Zayn wasted no time working on music with producer, Naughty Boy. For some dumb reason, Louis ended up getting into a dumb Twitter spat with the producer, which escalated dramatically when Zayn weighed in on the beef.

Needless to say that the Louis Tomlinson/Zayn Malik ship was sunk faster than the Titanic following this weird Twitter feud that seemingly came out of nowhere, but things seemingly looked like they were getting back to normal in 2016.

Louis’ mother passed away at the end of 2016 due to leukemia and his One Direction bandmates all expressed their support, including Zayn, who tweeted out a pretty nice message for his former pal.

To pay tribute to his late mother, Louis decided to perform his then-new single, ‘Just Hold On’, on The X Factor and his former One Direction bandmates agreed to show up for his performance as a show of support.

However, when the time came for the performance, Zayn was the only one who didn’t turn up, which seems a bit cold, especially to a former bandmate.

Needless to say that this didn’t sit down too well with Louis, who didn’t say anything publicly about Zayn’s absence for a long time. That being said, it didn’t stop him from tweeting out weird stuff that is almost certainly about his former pal.

When Zayn released his single, ‘Good Years’, in 2018, Louis wasted little time in tweeting the seemingly random comment, “Proper confused. What a hypocrite!”

While it seems like Louis is screaming into the void for some reason, it can also be interpreted as some kind of dig at Zayn and ‘Good Years’, which has lyrics supposedly alluding to his time in One Direction such as, “I’d rather be anywhere, anywhere but here / Too much drugs and alcohol. What the hell were we fighting for? / ‘Cause now the whole damn world will know. That we’re too numb and just too dumb to change the story.”

Just when this strange little saga couldn’t have any more twists in it, Louis finally addressed his and Zayn’s friendship when he chatted to Dan Wootton in 2019, saying that their relationship “never really got better” following One Direction.

Referring to the X Factor snub, Louis says he “had a couple of calls” with Zayn after his mother died and that it really “bugged” him when his former bandmate decided not to show up.

“It was just seeing everyone there—Harry, Niall, and Liam—that was what I needed that night, that support. So on the other end of the spectrum, it kind of really showed. So, eh, I hope he’s alright, but…”

No need for a translator so read into what Louis is trying to get at there.

It’s pretty hard to sum up Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik’s relationship at this point. On one hand it seems like their friendship is still there somewhere, yet on the other it looks like the chances of the pair reconciling are about close to zero.

It’s all super weird and going through their history for this edition of Never Forget made me realise just how dumb it is. Maybe I should stick to Tom and Jerry cartoons, at least that’s a love/hate relationship that makes a bit more sense than whatever is happening here.

What The Hell Were My Chemical Romance Doing All This Time?

The lads kept themselves pretty busy before rejoining the Black Parade.

After a number of years away from the music scene, the Black Parade is set to march again: My Chemical Romance have dusted off their eyeliner and finest black clothes for a much-hyped reunion show.

Needless to say, this has galvanised My Chemical Romance fans everywhere while reawakening the teenage emo many thought they had buried in a coffin years ago.

I definitely am now.

This reunion has brought up one big question though: What exactly have My Chemical Romance been doing during all this time (besides sleeping in coffins)?

Since this is a very important question that literally someone in the GOAT office asked (it may or may not have been me), I’ve decided to do some digging into what each My Chemical Romance member got up to during the band’s break-up prior to them rejoining the Black Parade.

Gerard Way

Gerard Way has kept himself busy by sticking his fingers in a number of creative pies. He released a solo album, Hesitant Alien, appeared on a bunch of other people’s singles (including those from his My Chemical Romance bandmates), wrote a Spider-Man comic, continued writing his own original comic-book series The Umbrella Academy, and helped make a live-action adaptation of The Umbrella Academy for Netflix.

Oh and he’s also Joe Rogan’s cousin. Not really related to what he’s been up to but it’s such a weird, newly unearthed fact that I simply had to include it.

Mikey Way

The band’s bassist (and Gerard’s younger brother) went wandering in the wilderness for a year before forming a new band called Electric Century and collabing with other bands and musicians such as Good Charlotte, Andy Black, and Waterparks.

Outside of music, Mikey has taken a leaf out of his big brother’s book by co-writing a comic-book series called Collapser.

Ray Toro

Unlike the Way brothers, My Chemical Romance’s lead guitarist and backing vocalist has kept himself firmly in the music scene. He’s released some solo tunes to his SoundCloud, dropped a solo album called Remember the Laughter, formed a band with his MCR bandmate James Dewee, and provided guitar parts for Voltaire’s album, Raised by Bats.

“What can I say, I like music.”

Frank Iero

The band’s rhythm guitarist decided to work on various music-related projects, such as a digital hardcore act called Death Spells with his bandmate James Dewees, released a number of solo albums, and toured with various backup bands he put together.

Unfortunately, Frank also had to spend some time recovering from a freak bus crash when he was in Australia in 2016.

James Dewees

And finally, we get to James Dewees, who’s come up quite a few times already across has various My Chemical Romance bandmates’ projects.

In addition to all his bandmates’ creative thingys, James has kept performing and releasing new music through a number of other bands, such as The Get Up Kids and Reggie and the Full Effect.

In Arguably More Shocking My Chemical Romance News, Gerard Way Is Related To Joe Rogan!?

News of My Chemical Romance's reunion is secondary to this.

Get out your eyeliner and black clothes because after several years of sleeping in coffins or something, My Chemical Romance is reuniting. But as exciting as this piece of monumental music news is, it is arguably less shocking than another tidbit that came up: the band’s frontman Gerard Way and podcaster Joe Rogan are actually related.

During a chat with Kevin Smith (via Tone Deaf) on his podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience, Joe was asked about his family. Specifically, Kevin brought up the issue like this:

“I gotta ask a question on behalf of somebody else. Your grandmother named Josie—Gerard Way, lead singer of My Chemical Romance.”

To which Joe replied with a simple:

“Yeah, we’re related.”

Talk about two peas from wildly different plant groups. One is a podcaster who dabbles in things ranging from stand-up to UFC and the other is, well, Gerard Way.

As for what their relation is, apparently the pair are cousins through the aforementioned Josie, who is Gerard’s aunt and Joe’s grandmother, as Smith explains:

“I’m talking to Gerard, and he goes, ‘I don’t have 100% confirmation on this, but I’m pretty sure Joe Rogan is my cousin because my Aunt Josie was his grandmother.'”

The chances of two famous people being related are pretty low, let alone those two people being Gerard Way and Joe Rogan. But interestingly, despite being from the same family, Joe says he and Gerard don’t actually know each other.

With My Chemical Romance reuniting and The Joe Rogan Experience being one of the most popular podcasts around, the only reasonable course of action now that this weird piece of information is out of the bag is to have Joe and Gerard meet and have a chat.

It’s time for these two polar opposites to meet and bring this whole thing full circle.
