Billie Eilish Shouldn’t Have To Respond To Those Wild Lady Gaga Trolls

“People try to frame me for being shady..."

Another day, another celebrity beef being perpetuated entirely by diehard fans – and this time, it concerns our faves Billie Eilish and Lady Gaga.

During a recent interview with Variety, Eilish and her brother Finneas O’Connell discussed the most iconic moments of the MTV Video Music Awards. At one point the brother sister duo touched on the unforgettable ‘meat dress’ Lady Gaga wore to the VMAs in 2010.

“I grew up watching the Grammys, we all did,” Eilish said. “I used to judge all the girls’ dresses. That’s all I did, I barely paid any attention to the music.”

“Was the meat dress a Grammys event?” Finneas asked.

“Eh, Yiiiikkeees,” Eilish responded.

It wasn’t long before Lady Gaga’s Little Monsters caught wind of the interview and took to social media to tear Eilish to shreds for her comment. The social media backlash got so intense that fans began using the hashtag #BillieEilishIsOverParty to pile on the young singer.

When Eilish was asked about the trolling from Gaga’s fans over the weekend, she insisted she “didn’t even know about it.”

“I don’t even care. Why would I care?” she told Variety. “People try to frame me for being shady and I’m not even, so I don’t care. I’m just being honest, I’m not gonna lie!”

I’m going to have to agree with Billie on this one – having an opinion on a dress Lady Gaga wore to an awards show almost ten years ago doesn’t give fans the right to automatically “cancel” her.

Let’s also not forget the fact that Eilish is a vegan, so it’s no surprise that a dress made entirely of raw meat probably isn’t her vibe.

It’s not the first time Billie Eilish has copped flack for no good reason. Just last week, the singer was dragged by angry dads after she admitted she didn’t know who 70s rock band Van Halen was during an interview with Jimmy Kimmel.

Eilish appeared to reference the saga during her acceptance speech at the recent Variety Hitmakers event. “Thank you for not making me look stupid,” she said. “Like everybody else wants to do on TV.”

We’re living in an era where trolling and ‘piling on’ someone for a harmless comment has become all too easy – particularly when it’s to pit two artists against each other. None of us know Eilish or Gaga personally, but I’m certain they don’t want this kind of negative attention or support.
