6 Iconic 00s Bands That Need To Join The So Pop 2020 Lineup

Who remembers Stacie Orrico!?

Noughties kids found themselves shook beyond comprehension earlier this morning when the lineup for So Pop 2020 was announced.

The stellar lineup features all our cheesy 00s faves including the recently reunited Pussycat Dolls, Steps, Jesse McCartney, Smash Mouth, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Alice DJ, Samantha Mumba and more incredible pop acts and one hit wonders.

Aussies will be treated to this smorgasbord of nostalgic talent when the concert hits our shores in April next year, but it got me thinking – what other iconic 00s acts would we be frothing to see play So Pop 2020? Here are a few suggestions:

Crazy Town – Butterfly

Have you really lived if you’ve not memorised the lyrics to the one hit wonder ‘Butterfly’ by Crazy Town? I think not. The shirtless rap rock fellas of Crazy Town burst onto our TV screens and So Fresh CDs in 2000, and almost 20 years on, we’re still singing “come my lady, come, come my lady. You’re my butterfly, sugar, baby.”

Fountains of Wayne – Stacy’s Mom

Speaking of one hit wonders, So Pop 2020 is seriously lacking in the Fountains of Wayne department. These guys are perhaps best known for their 2003 pop punk track ‘Stacy’s Mom’ which was the ultimate MILF shoutout. Sadly, the song is frequently misattributed to fellow pop punk band Bowling for Soup, so now’s the time to give credit where credit is due!

Stacie Orrico – Stuck

Serious question: whatever happened to Stacey Orrico, and when she is going to make a comeback!? Orrico’s banger ‘Stuck’ was quite literally stuck in our heads throughout the entirety of 2003 and it still slaps 16 years later. Fun fact: the boyfriend in Orrico’s music video for ‘Stuck’ was played by her cousin, actor Trevor Wright. I’m not sure whether that’s creepy or cool, but either way – someone needs to get her on the So Pop 2020 lineup ASAP.

5ive – Keep On Movin’

Okay, so technically ‘Keep On Movin’’ by UK boy band 5ive AKA Five came out in 1999, but it was blasting out of our Discmans well into the early noughties. 5ive were a quintessential 00s boy band and over their time in the spotlight released a bunch of iconic tracks, like ‘If Ya Gettin’ Down,’ ‘When The Lights Go Out,’ but sadly turned down ‘Bye Bye Bye’ (later made famous by NSYNC) and it really was Bye Bye Bye for the band after that. It’s time to bring ‘em back, I say.

Baby Bash – Suga Suga

‘Suga Suga’ is one of those iconic songs that you forgot existed until you hear it and fall in love all over again. The track, by Baby Bash featuring Frankie J, dropped in 2003 and quickly climbed the charts for it’s catchy hook sampled from Barry White’s ‘I’m Gonna Love You Just A Little More Baby.’ In fact, the hook is so catchy, it was sampled again in the 2015 Robin Schulz track ‘Sugar.’ If that’s not So Pop 2020-worthy, I don’t know what is.

Eamon & Frankee – F*ck It (I Don’t Want You Back) & F.U.R.B

Eamon and Frankee’s tit-for-tat song war was the mid-00s relationship trainwreck we couldn’t look away from. Eamon released the expletive-ridden ‘F*ck It (I Don’t Want You Back)’ in 2003 and less than a year later, singer Frankee (who claimed to be his ex-girlfriend) retaliated with ‘F.U.R.B’ – an acronym for ‘F*ck You Right Back.’ Eamon denied that Frankee was his ex, and tbh, we weren’t really buying it either but it was a great publicity stunt and the song made its way onto all our mixtapes. I’d love nothing more than to see Eamon and Frankee rekindle their tumultuous relationship onstage at So Pop 2020.

The pre-sale for So Pop 2020 kicks off on Wednesdays 4th of December, with tix available to the general public Monday 9th December.
