The Cast Of My Best Friend's Wedding Have Reunited To Spill All Their On-Set Secrets

They answered our prayers.

Entertainment Weekly reunited the cast of 1997’s My Best Friend’s Wedding for their first ever rom-com themed issue, and it’s glorious.

First things first: the styling.

Cameron’s dress is amazing. You could say she’s a vision in pink. Here’s are two more photos of it:

I’m obsessed with the fact the tiling and the walls and the flower arrangements all complement Cameron’s dress. The effect is stunning!

And Julia Roberts in a suit for the occasion? Heck yes. Plus, Dermot Mulroney’s metallic suit isn’t too shabby either.

But now it’s time for the juicy stuff. The accompanying interview had Cameron Diaz, Julia Roberts, Dermot Mulroney and Rupert Everett reminiscing about the process of filming the movie in the summer of 1996.

Rupert Everett told EW:

“We all got on so well straightaway. And everybody clicked onscreen straightaway, and you could feel that. And for me, it was magical. But the last time I saw it, it kind of made me cry just thinking of how magic that time was, that summer.”

Apparently, he was initially reluctant to take the role, because his character George Downes had literally only two lines to start with.

Fortunately, director P.J. Hogan expanded his role, and the movie ended up being a “complete changing point” in Everett’s life. It was lucky for us, too, since it gave us this iconic scene, which wasn’t originally in the script:

Meanwhile, Julia Roberts said she agreed to do the movie because she:

“thought it was really clever and just funny. All the physical comedy I loved. Lots of falling down and falling through things, falling all over myself, falling over Dermot.”

So basically, she wanted an excuse to fall over Dermot Mulroney? I respect that.

Like Everett, Cameron Diaz said the movie was a huge break for her, too. And she mentioned that her sister-in-law, Nicole Richie, loves the movie so much that when they visited Chicago, she took Diaz to every single filming location.

“She’s like, “Remember when you were walking down the street right here and then…” It was so much fun. I was like, “Yes, I think I do.” She’s like, “I do, and it really means a lot to me, so I would like for you to pretend like you do.””

Dermot Mulroney recalled filming the scene where he and Roberts are dancing on a boat on the Chicago river. During filming, bystanders on bridges would shout out to Julia, because she was one of the biggest actors in the world at the time (and still is).

Meanwhile, on the eighth trip down the river, someone yelled out “Hey Dermot!”, but it wasn’t an adoring fan – it was a friend of his from college. Which, in his words, “didn’t really count”. Sad.

You can check out the whole interview here. And I’ll leave you with this adorable behind-the-scenes photo courtesy of Cameron Diaz.

N’awww.
