Taron Egerton Could Play Wolverine, But There's One Big Problem

To claw or not to claw, that is the question.

If you’re a Wolverine fan you’d be well aware that Hugh Jackman has hung up his claws after 17 years in the longest career as a live-action Marvel superhero, which he proudly holds a Guinness World Record for.

Hugh might’ve said his goodbyes to the franchise, but that doesn’t mean Wolverine ceases to exist. Mark Millar, who has written some of Marvel’s highest-selling graphic novels recently took to Twitter to make the bold claim that the next Wolverine would be played by Rocketman star, Taron Egerton.

While the tip comes as exciting news to Egerton’s fans, there’s one big problem: the actor himself isn’t so sure he’s the right “candidate” for the job. In a recent interview with Heart Breakfast, Egerton said he doesn’t know if he’s “quite grisly enough” to fill Hugh’s shoes.

“That one I think is just a rumour,” he said. “As far as I’m aware it’s unfounded. I don’t know if I’m quite grisly enough.”

“If the people at Marvel think I am, then great, let’s go. But I think there are probably better candidates. But I would love to be involved with that world somewhere,” he said.

Taron Egerton isn’t the only actor who has been forced to squash similar casting rumours. Earlier this year, Daniel Radcliffe also had to deny claims he was going to play Wolverine after he made a passing joke about the film. “This is what happens when you make jokes,” he told IGN. “Wouldn’t it be great if you could start casting yourself in things by just saying them in interviews?”

While it sounds like neither Egerton, nor Radcliffe are aware of any future involvement in the film, Mark Millar has a penchant for predicting the outcome of Marvel film casts. In 2017, he tweeted that he thought Robert Pattinson would make a great Bruce Wayne. Fast-forward to 2019, and his prediction came true with the news that R-Patz had, indeed, been cast as the next Batman.

If this is anything to go by, we might be seeing Taron Egerton clawing up after all. Watch this space.
