Robert Pattinson Argues 'Batman's Not A Superhero' And He's Right

"I don’t think I could ever play a real hero."

Robert Pattinson surprised much of the world when it was announced he would be starring as Bruce Wayne in Matt Reeves’ upcoming film The Batman.

Batman is known to many people as a rich dude who becomes a superhero to fight crime in Gotham, but Pattinson argues that’s not true at all. And he’s absolutely right.

Pattinson argues that because he doesn’t have any superpowers, he’s not a superhero, he’s just Bruce Wayne – a rich dude with gadgets and a desire for justice.

The Batman is set to be a film noir focusing on Batman as a detective, something that hasn’t really been covered in the films before.

Speaking with Today’s Willie Geist, the host asked Pattinson about Batman, “That came to you and you thought what? You want to be a superhero…”

Pattinson responded, “Batman’s not a superhero,” and Geist asked him to classify the character, to which the actor said, “It’s weird, I always balk at it. I’m like, ‘It doesn’t count, you need to have like magical powers to be a superhero.'”

Geist joked that Batman had the cape, adding, “So, that’s a pretty good start.” Pattinson agreed, “Yeah, the cape is there. I give you that one.”

It’s not the first time the actor has broached the topic of Batman not being a superhero, or even a regular hero.

In an interview with the New York Times, he said we should be sceptical of any actor who wants to play the hero, despite the fact he’s playing Batman.

“Batman’s not a hero, though. He’s a complicated character. I don’t think I could ever play a real hero — there’s always got to be something a little bit wrong. I think it’s because one of my eyes is smaller than the other one,” he said.

So, I think we can safely say: Bruce Wayne doesn’t have any superpowers, therefore, he isn’t a superhero. Case closed.

The Batman is set for release on June 25, 2021.
