Get your wishes ready because the Fairy Godmother in James Corden’s Cinderella remake has been cast, and he’s about to make all our dreams come true.
During his appearance at the New Yorker Festival, Pose star Billy Porter confirmed he’s playing the role of the Fairy Godmother in the upcoming Cinderella film. “I have a couple of movies that I’m working on,” he said on the New Yorker’s Instagram stories. “I’m gonna be playing the fairy godmother in the new Cinderella movie with Camila Cabello.”
ICYMI, Porter will be joined by ‘Senorita’ chart-topper Camila Cabello who will be making her acting debut in the film as Cinderella herself, as well as Frozen star Idina Menzel in the role of Lady Tremaine.
According to E! News, Cabello will also be helping to create music for Cinderella alongside James Corden, who is producing the live-action remake.
There are countless reasons to be excited for Porter’s part in the Cinderella movie. Not only does he play Pray Tell on Pose, but he recently made history as the first openly gay black man to win the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series.
Another reason to love Porter is for his red carpet prowess. After breaking onto the scene, Porter has been setting red carpets alight left, right and centre with his fire looks. At the Oscars, Porter wore a Christian Siriano tuxedo gown and at the Golden Globes, he sported an embellished grey suit with stunning hot pink silk lining.
And how could we possibly forget Porter’s look at this year’s Met Gala. The actor personified the event’s ‘camp’ theme and took it to the next level. According to Vogue, Porter wore “a bejewelled catsuit outfitted with 10-foot wings, a 24-karat gold headpiece, as well as custom gold-leaf Giuseppe Zanotti shoes and fine jewels by Andreoli and Oscar Heyman.”
Before he slayed the red carpet, Porter AKA the ‘Sun God’ of the Gala was carried in on a chair by six shirtless men, quite literally dripping in gold.
If this isn’t the stuff of Fairy Godmothers, I don’t know what is.
