While talking to Andy Cohen, Anne Hathaway confirmed that there is a script for The Princess Diaries 3, and that both she and Julie Andrews are on board.
Meg Cabot, author of the novels, confirmed the existence of the script back in 2017, but thanks to a fan on Watch What Happens Live, we now know that Anne, Julie and their producer are keen to make it happen, on one condition.
In response to the fan’s question about there being a script for the third movie, Anne said:
“I want to do it. Julie wants to do it. Debra Martin Chase, our producer, wants to do it. We all really want it to happen. It’s just [that] we don’t want to unless it’s perfect because we love it just as much as you guys love it. It’s as important to us as it is to you, and we don’t want to deliver anything until it’s ready, but we’re working on it.”
This could be a fantastic opportunity to tap into the nostalgia that everyone who watched the Princess Diaries movies growing up has for the series, à la Mamma Mia 2 and Finding Dory.
