A Moment Of Appreciation For Missy Elliott, Who Is Now The First Female Rapper In The Songwriters Hall Of Fame

We bow down to a legend.

Let’s just take a moment to appreciate the hip hop and R&B legend, Missy Elliott, who has just made history as the first female rapper to ever be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. She’s the third rapper overall to get the Songwriters Hall of Fame honour.

The Grammy-award-winning icon has been in the game for nearly 30 years, consistently bringing us great hits and great vibes, but she’s seriously under-appreciated.

We’ve got all her own iconic tracks like ‘Work It’, ‘Pass That Dutch’ and ‘Get Ur Freak On’, plus countless others you might not even realise she’s written and produced for big names like Whitney Houston, Beyoncé and Ciara. ‘1,2 Step?’ That was Missy. Revamping ‘Lady Marmalade’ into a modern classic? That was Missy.

She’s literally spent her whole career championing women-supporting-women, and bringing feminism to mainstream music. Her lyrics are playfully sex-positive and her look refuses to conform to what’s expected of female artists.

So, to say the least, people are pumped that Missy has been awarded this honour.

Missy Elliot has made a brand out of being unapologetically herself and in short, she’s an icon, and she deserves every bit of the Hall of Fame glory.
