If Miley Cyrus Can Own Her Past Mistakes Post-Break Up, So Can You

Prepare to be schooled.

Millions of hearts were broken this week when it was announced that Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth had called it quits.

Since the split, Cyrus has been spotted getting ~cosy~ with Brody Jenner’s ex-wife Kaitlyn Carter, and Hemsworth has been avoiding the media like the plague.

He did, however, make a statement on Instagram, which read: “Hi all. Just a quick note to say that Miley and I have recently separated and I wish her nothing but health and happiness going forward.”

“This is a private matter and I have no mate, nor will I be making, any comments to any journalists or media outlets. Any reported quotes attributed to me are false. Peace and love.”

Hemsworth officially filed for divorce earlier this week citing irreconcilable differences, and while it sounds like the split was amicable, it didn’t stop people from speculating drug addiction and infidelity as the reasons behind their marriage breakdown.

Today, Cyrus took to social media to really clear things up. In a lengthy thread, the singer explained that while her past isn’t perfect and she has definitely made mistakes, her relationship with Hemsworth was committed and loving.

“It is no secret that I was into partying in my teens and early 20’s,” she wrote. “I have no only smoked, but advocated for weed, I’ve experimented with drugs, my biggest song to date is about dancing on molly and snorting lines in the bathroom.”

“…But the truth is, once Liam and I reconciled, I meant it, and I was committed. There are NO secrets to uncover here. I’ve learned from every experience in my life. I’m not perfect, I don’t want to be, it’s boring. I’ve grown up in front of you, but the bottom line is, I HAVE GROWN UP.”

This kind of brutal honesty has become hard to come by amidst the glitz, glamour and Insta filters of Hollywood. Not only is Cyrus’ statement refreshing, but it proves that we all make mistakes and instead of condemning people for them, we should be celebrating the growth that comes from them.

There is an insurmountable amount of pressure on celebrities to live perfectly and love perfectly all the time. The harsh reality is, Miley Cyrus is just like all of us: a human being who has faults.

She’s come a long way from swinging naked on a wrecking ball, but one thing is clear – her relationship with Liam Hemsworth was the real deal. Now, let’s allow them both to move on.
