Miley Cyrus has been on a journey the last couple of months and the whole world has been on it with her.
She’s gone from Liam Hemsworth to Kaitlynn Carter to single life and, now, to Cody Simpson.
She’s been slut shamed, cheat shamed, and just shamed in general – all things she doesn’t deserve. A woman who embraces her sexuality and likes to explore her options should be celebrated as empowered – it’s not 2007 anymore, wake (woke) the hell up.
But there is one thing Miley has started to do that has me…amused.
She’s started oversharing on Instagram. Like, a lot. I’m talking whole essays of text on her Instagram Stories about paparazzi and yoga and full moons.
Like I said, it’s been a journey.
And the journey reached full speed yesterday when Miley shared not one, not two, but EIGHT stories chronicling her “boyfriend” Cody Simpson’s visit to her hospital room.
It’s been a week or so of them ‘dating’ (if kissing over açai bowls is dating) and suddenly Cody’s not only Miley’s boyfriend but he’s serenading her in a hospital room? And she’s sharing non-stop gushy posts about him? Does this feel like a lot to anyone else?
I said I love a woman that embraces her sexuality and I stand by that. But there’s something else at play here that I can’t ignore – Miley is putting on a deliberate show.
I’m not saying whatever Miley has with Cody is fake – I have no idea about the inner workings of their relationship. What I’m saying is that she’s deliberately posting about him. It’s standard post-breakup behaviour. We’ve all done it and we all know how it goes.
Whether we’re the breaker upper or the broken hearted, we post all of our best experiences on our social accounts to make our ex jealous.
Miley, clearly, isn’t immune to the post-breakup game – she’s right there with us on this one. And it’s both relatable and hilarious to watch.
It’s good to see Miley’s smitten with her new beau, but spare a thought for Liam who’s just quietly doing his thing. It always sucks seeing your ex is having a good time without you. Especially when the dude she’s replaced you with is a younger, blonder, version of you.
