Etihad Stadium will be renamed Marvel Stadium in a new partnership with The Walt Disney Company Australia, starting from September 1st. Which by my calculations, is just in time for a spring/summer season of Marvel movies to be shown on the big stadium screens (not officially, but a good suggestion IMO).
They’ve got the deal for eight years so if they do take up my stadium as cinema idea, it should see us all the way through to Captain Marvel 3 and five or so more X-Men movies.
As stadiums named after cash-splashing corporate name sponsors go, this sure as hell sounds better than Qudos Bank Arena.
While the venue’s chief said they wont “shove things down people’s throats” (“things” being “merchandising”), the extensive rebranding will include a Marvel shop and “activations” to bring the characters to life. And apparently the stars are already on board.

This totally sets the scene for a Gladiator style match between Thor and Black Panther, doesn’t it? Or is that just me getting carried away on a horse drawn chariot of supernerd wet dreams.

What a (super)power move by Melbourne to establish itself as the superior city and force Sydney into renaming Allianz “Justice League Stadium” and dimming the lights down so games are always played in half-shadow for that dark, gritty DC atmosphere.
While it may create a new war between Sydney and Melbourne, this could be the thing that finally sees nerds and jocks unite.
Carlton's form at Marvel Stadium?
