Idris Elba Has Us Thinking He'll Return To The MCU For The Next Thor Movie

Very interesting!

It’s not unusual for people who star in superhero movies to turn down offers to appear in more films in the franchise. However, this doesn’t appear to be the case when it comes to Idris Elba, whose MCU character Heimdall was killed in the opening scene of Avengers: Infinity War.

During a recent interview with KTSA Radio, Elba revealed he’d be keen to come back to the MCU, and may have even hinted that it’s happening.

“Of course. Listen, Heimdall is essentially part of the god family. So you know, he essentially could be alive,” he said.

“I’m just saying! I’m just putting it out there. The Heimdall character goes way back into, you know, the Thor mythology, And I’m sure there will be an interesting way to bring that alive. Of course I would. Yes.”

Could that be a hint that he is returning?

Heimdall was murdered in Infinity War after he used his powers to send Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk to Earth to warn everyone about Thanos.

Though, if the actor does return to the MCU, he might actually want to watch Avengers: Endgame first.

“I have it seen it, so no spoilers! I know, I know. I have no life,” he added in the same interview.

Elba has previously spoken about being on the set of Thor: The Dark World for reshoots, calling it “torture”.

He had just been filming Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom where he was playing Nelson Mandela, and then he had to go back to being Asgardian.

The actor told The Telegraph, “And in the actual scene my hair was different, my… [Sigh] I was like, ‘This is torture, man. I don’t want to do this.’ My agent said: ‘You have to, it’s part of the deal.’”

“I’m actually falling down from a spaceship, so they had to put me in harness in this green-screen studio. And in between takes I was stuck there, fake hair stuck on to my head with glue, this f***ing helmet, while they reset. And I’m thinking: ‘24 hours ago, I was Mandela.’ … Then there I was, in this stupid harness, with this wig and this sword and these contact lenses. It ripped my heart out.”

This is the scene he’s referring to:

It wasn’t exactly the best thing to say in an interview given he appeared in three more MCU films after that, however, he didn’t actually say that he didn’t want to be part of the films, just that the reshoots weren’t exactly fun and games.

So, these new comments have us thinking he may make an appearance in Thor: Love and Thunder, but he is also set to appear in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, so maybe he won’t be allowed to return, who knows?
