Falcon Might Not Be The New Captain America Now That This Character Has Been Cast

Well, this makes things complicated!

Falcon and the Winter Soldier Disney+ series kicks off right where Avengers: Endgame left off with Steve Rogers handing the mantle of Captain America to Sam Wilson.

Now that Steve has retired, it’s expected Falcon will take over the role in the new Disney+ series, but it might not be that simple. It’s possible that the new Captain America is actually a new character named John Walker.

ScreenRant reports Marvel announced at Disney’s D23 Expo that 22 Jump Street star Wyatt Russell will be playing John Walker AKA U.S. Agent in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Emily VanCamp will also join the series as Sharon Carter once again, and Daniel Bruhl is set to return as Baron Zemo.

While it hasn’t been revealed how U.S. Agent fits into the show, his comic book backstory shows he has deep ties to the government as well as Captain America and the Avengers. He’s also been known as both a hero and a villain.

Given this history, we wouldn’t be surprised if Walker makes things difficult for Wilson when it comes to suiting up as Captain America.

In the comics, Walker first appeared in the Captain America comics as Super Patriot, a hero who made Rogers question his abilities and future as a superhero.

Walker gets his powers by buying them from The Power Broker and after one heroic act he becomes a celebrity.

When Rogers retires as Captain America, the U.S. Government makes Walker his replacement. Walker is much more loyal to the government than Rogers was but soon begins acting far more brutal and ruthless than his predecessor ever did.

In the comics, Rogers is incredibly angry to find out Walker murdered two villains as Captain America and Walker eventually gives the shield back to Rogers. He then joins Hawkeye’s West Coast Avengers as U.S. Agent.

Russell will also appear as Walker in WandaVision.
