It’s been a big day for… Listening to...

Even Chris Hemsworth Thought He Sucked In The First Two Thor Films Too, He's Only Human After All

In all honesty, Chris was the only thing that made the first couple of Thor films tolerable.

When you’re a blockbuster-making machine like Marvel is, not every film that’s pumped out is going to be a winner. For every Black Panther that comes out, there’s an Incredible Hulk or Iron Man 2 to balance it out.

But if I were to pick out the absolute worst films that have come out of the MCU so far, I will have no hesitation naming Thor and Thor: The Dark World as Marvel’s worst efforts (so far). When the best thing you can say about those films is “at least the next Marvel movie can’t get any worse” then you know you’ve got a stinker on your hands.

I’m far from the only one with that opinion but the one person who is best positioned to really critique the films is Chris Hemsworth and he’s not exactly been enamoured with his work on the first two Thor films.

Apparently not.

In a new chat with Yahoo Movies, Chris said that he felt “underwhelmed” with what he was bringing to Thor in the character’s two solo films as well as all the Avengers team ups. So if you thought Chris and the first two Thor films sucked, don’t worry because he did too.

“When we came into Ragnarok, I was sort of exhausted of what I’d been doing and a little sort of underwhelmed by what I was putting out there, you know?”

Being the top bloke that he is, Chris didn’t blame anyone but himself for all the shortcomings of the character, saying that he felt he had put himself “in a box with what the character could do”. It was when Taika Waititi came onboard for Thor: Ragnarok that he felt he could finally break free and go bonkers with Thor, calling his experience on that third film “liberating and freeing.”

This isn’t the first time Chris has roasted his pre-Ragnarok Thor work, having previously called The Dark World “meh” in an interview with GQ, and it’s quite refreshing to have someone who isn’t afraid to say “yep, I sucked” as opposed to the usual PR spin of “the critics are wrong” or “we did it for the fans”.

Your words, not mine.

Perhaps more people should be more self-critical like Chris because his revamped take on Thor paid off in Ragnarok as that film raked in all the critical acclaim and box-office dollars that the first two Thor films didn’t.

While we have no idea what’s happening in Endgame, the brief bits we’ve seen of Thor so far shows that we can expect more goofy God of Thunder shenanigans. Long-haired Thor had his moments, but we dig short-haired Thor far better so here’s hoping he and his new axe sticks around a bit longer when Tony Stark and Steve Rogers inevitably call it a day.
