It’s been a big day for… Listening to...

This Aussie Wedding Magazine Won't Publish Same-Sex Content But Also Won't Publicly Own Up To Being Against Marriage Equality So People Are Understandably Mad

More than 100 vendors say they are boycotting the magazine.

White Magazine is one of Australia’s most popular wedding mags, but they might be losing a lot of support due to their apparent but covert policy on publishing same-sex content. Basically, they won’t.

If White Magazine doesn’t support marriage equality, that is their choice (albeit a bad and inherently discriminatory one). But they need to be transparent about that choice because readers, contributors and advertisers have the right to choose too.

Because the majority of us voted YES mate, so catch up or own up.

Wedding industry professionals have taken to Facebook this week to share stories about working (or not working) with White, which all evidence the magazine’s unspoken stance against representing marriage quality.

Advertisers, photographers, videographers and celebrants say that White has ignored their submissions of same-sex content.

Photographer Lara Hotz, whose photos have run on the cover of White and who is married to another woman, recently followed up with the editor about a previous inquiry about featuring non-heterosexual couples.

“We aren’t sharing Same Sex (sic) weddings at this point.” the text responded.

Hotz said she felt discriminated against by the covert policy.

Advertiser and photographer Ona Janzen was also disappointed to hear White was not transparent about their refusal to support marriage equality.

“If I had known they don’t support SSM I wouldn’t have chosen to spend a good portion of my marketing funds with their magazine, on principle,” she told AAP on Thursday.

The fact that White does not want to represent non-heterosexual marriage is disappointing, but the crucial problem here is that a wedding magazine that is so influential has a duty to make that policy public.

People have the right to make an informed decision about the businesses they are supporting and at this point, there are a lot of people whose support White Magazine does not deserve.
