It’s been a big day for… Listening to...

Mariah Carey's Terrifyingly Powerful Fanbase Got The Glitter Soundtrack To #1 On The US iTunes, 17 Years After It Bombed

We should have known right from the start it'd go and top that chart.

Mariah Carey’s autobiographical 2001 film Glitter was critically panned, with plenty of jokes about “just drop the G”. Both the film and its soundtrack were repeatedly delayed by execs who clearly saw the writing on the wall, and the eventual release date was… September 11. Yes, that one.

The album flopped, the film flopped, and Carey’s career became a punchline for a while. All this despite having a trailer that features the “In a world…” voiceover guy:

Today, the world has finally been set right: Carey’s fanbase, aka “the lambily”, campaigned for weeks to get the Glitter OST to the top of the iTunes charts in the lead-up to her new album, Caution, which is out today.

Glitter is not available to stream on Spotify or Apple Music, so buying it for the princely sum of US$4.99 was the only way to support it.

And as of the end of the week, they made it happen.

The really good news, however, is that Caution is actually FULL OF BOPS. There’s a track with Ty Dolla $ign, produced by Lido (yes, Halsey’s ex, that one) and Skrillex that is going on repeat poolside all summer.
