Margot Robbie Made Quentin Tarantino Her Pen Pal To Land A Role In His Film

Dear Mr. Tarantino...

When it comes to landing her dream role, Margot Robbie isn’t afraid to take matters into her own hands – quite literally.

In a recent interview with Quentin Tarantino for Vogue Australia, Robbie revealed she wrote the director an actual pen-to-paper letter to express her interest in being cast in one of his films.

Coincidentally, Tarantino had already been thinking of Margot Robbie for the role when the letter arrived. “In it you expressed that you’ve been a fan of my work for a long time – you and your whole family – and you say: “I just want you to know if there’s something you like me for, just let me know.”

When Tarantino asked Robbie what “prompted” her to write the letter, she said, “I had wanted to write the letter for years and years and years. Because I’d heard you were going to do 10 movies and I couldn’t bear the thought I would miss the boat and never see what one of your film sets was like: I needed to figure out a way to get on set.”

“Maybe I could even hold a door in the back of a scene. But at the same time I wasn’t really in the right position to reach out to Quentin Tarantino and say: “Hello, my name is Margot and can I come visit your sets?”

Robbie explained that it wasn’t until she experienced the success of her role in I, Tonya, that she was “happy with my acting” and was ready to send the letter.

“I remember agonising over everything – the paper, the pen, how I was going to write it – big, small, space out,” Robbie said – which is a fair call considering WHO WRITES LETTERS ANYMORE!?

A couple of weeks later, Robbie got the call saying Tarantino received her letter and “he’d really like to meet up,” and the rest is history.

Clearly, putting pen to paper the old fashioned way paid off big time for Margot Robbie. Let’s be honest, it sure beats sliding into someone’s DMs and asking to be in their movie.
