As Christmas dawns upon us, we’re faced with two thoughts: “damn, I still haven’t bought any presents yet” and “how many times can I watch Love Actually until it’s cryogenically frozen until next year?”.
Well, if you are anything like me, then Love Actually has been a yearly tradition. It’s a cultural cornerstone that has been around for 15 years and seemingly made us believe that love is real and to worry whenever we hear any mention of Joni Mitchell.
The thing is though, there was a WHOLE subplot about the headmistress at the Alan Rickman and Emma Thompson’s kids school (whose excellent idea it probably was to include lobsters in the nativity scene).
Director Richard Curtis was “really sorry to lose the scene” because it was supposed to tie-in to another deleted scene and for a film that relies on a tapestry reminiscent of a romantic Pulp Fiction, the scene ended up on the cutting room floor.
Although for what it’s worth, the story is quite beautiful and adds a new layer to what can only be described as red velvet cake for the soul.
