Turns Out There Was Real Heartbreak Behind Sarah And Karl’s Awkward Love Actually Scene

Love hurts.

It turns out that one of the most awkward scenes in Love Actually had real heartbreak behind it.

Laura Linney appeared on The Graham Norton Show this week, where she revealed that both she and her co-star, Rodrigo Santoro, had been dumped before filming.

Linney told Norton:

“We were both very broken hearted when we made that movie. He had just been dumped, I had just been dumped…”

Laura managed to look on the bright side though, telling Santoro, “all day long, we get to make each other feel better!”

She also told Norton that she thinks “there’s a sweetness to the scene” because they were both broken-hearted and could relate to each other.

She also said that despite Sarah’s lack of a happy ending, she didn’t think people should feel sorry for her.

“[People] feel very sorry for me. But they shouldn’t, they shouldn’t, because I really believe I got the best kiss in that movie. Hands down.”

Linney has been surprised by the movie’s success, thanks in no small part to its status as a Christmas essential, telling Norton:

“[The film] was so much bigger than I thought it would ever be.”

Who could resist a movie starring Bill Nighy as an ageing rockstar?
