It’s been a big day for… Listening to...

Hugo Weaving, Kochie And All Of Channel 7 Are Boycotting The Logies And Not Just Because It’s On The Gold Coast

Of course, Karl Stefanovic is outraged. Even though just last year he threatened to boycott the Logies because... they weren’t in Melbourne.

Renowned Aussie actor Hugo Weaving has revealed he won’t be attending the Logie Awards, despite the fact he’s been nominated for Most Outstanding Actor for his performance in the ABC’s Seven Types Of Ambiguity.

Yup, Agent Smith reckons Australian television’s ‘night of nights’ is just a self-serving promotional exercise for the television networks.

In an interview with the Daily Telegraph, the 58-year-old actor said: “They [the awards] are just promotional tools for TV channels themselves.”

“I don’t like awards because I am generally being used by someone else to try to promote their thing,” he added.

This prompted a scathing diatribe from Karl Stefanovic, who seems to be outraged by pretty much anything these days.

Stefanovic called the actor a “disgrace” then launched into a full attack, as if Hugo was watching…

“So you aren’t coming to the Logies? No worries. You don’t want to thank a producer, a camera operator, or someone who paid for your show to be made, paid your wage, Hugo?”

But it wouldn’t be true Karl if there wasn’t some glaring hypocrisy within his argument…

Just last year, Stefanovic was outraged by the decision to move the Logies from Melbourne  and also said he would boycott the awards.

“This is disgusting,” he said. “I will be boycotting the Logies until they’re back in Melbourne at Crown Casino.”

Karl quickly changed his tune after the Logies landed in his home state.

But Weaving isn’t the only one who’s decided the awards aren’t worth attending. On Monday, Karl’s rival anchor David Koch told FIVEaa he and his fellow Seven news team would not be going because… AFL!

“I’m not really boycotting because I haven’t been to the last few,” Kochie, who is the #1 ticket holder for the Port Adelaide Power, explained.

“It always clashes with football, which is way more important to me than getting on the grog with a whole bunch of TV people – unique individuals in their own right.”

“We just look at our ratings, that’s our Logies… We’ve always scratched our head at how the Logies are decided and judged.”

Of course, Karl had stuff to say about that, too.

“I hear our opposition isn’t coming either this year,” Stefanovic began.

“What, they’re too good to support the local industry? To support their own network colleagues who have been lucky enough to be nominated for their hard work?”

“Well, we don’t want you there anyway,” he added. “You’re all boring.

“Except for Grant Denyer, I quite like him.”

The 60th Annual Logie Awards is set to take place on the Gold Coast on Sunday 1st July and, regardless of who will or won’t attend, if last year’s ratings are anything to go by, we’ll all be watching.
