Takeaway Booze Rules Have Been Relaxed In NSW For Easter

Here's what you can and can't do over the long weekend.

As we swiftly approach the Easter long weekend, things are looking a little different this year. Tight government restrictions around non-essential travel and social distancing mean we’re confined to our homes for the most part – but for NSW residents, there is a silver lining.

It has been announced that licensed venues across the state will be allowed to sell takeaway food and alcohol on Good Friday and ANZAC day, in an effort to help businesses economically impacted by COVID-19.

Speaking of government restrictions, hear about Scott Morrison’s viral COVID blunders below:

“Some licensees who hold a liquor licence would normally be able to trade on a Good Friday but we’re extending that to all pubs, clubs, small bars, restaurants and cafes that sell food,” Liquor & Gaming NSW Executive Director of Policy and Strategy, John Tansey said.

“Likewise, ANZAC Day is normally a restricted day for trade, but given the circumstances it’s also a chance for some of our most impacted businesses to maintain operations and keep their staff employed.”

These relaxed rules mean that pubs, clubs, small bars, restaurants and cafes with liquor licenses can sell takeaway alcohol – with a meal – from 12pm to 10pm on Good Friday.

But what other activities are allowed this Easter long weekend amidst the pandemic? Sadly, you won’t be able to visit family unless it falls in line with government restrictions, you won’t be able to sneak away to a hotel or AirBnb or go driving anywhere unless you have a good reason.

The same goes for hanging out in your local park and even going for a bush walk – hefty fines apply if you’re caught doing any of the above.

So, what can we do this weekend? Well, for starters, you can get yourself some top-notch takeaway booze and bites from your favourite pub, club or small bar. Why not try your hand at baking hot cross buns, get stuck into a new book, churn your way through Netflix, or make it a boujee weekend in isolation with one of these fun activities.

Either way, we’re all in this together. Stay safe, stay home and think positive.
