Let Lamington Bacon Cheeseburgers Be The End Of Revolting Mashup Trends

My cholesterol levels are rising just looking at this beast.

Whatever happened to a good old fashioned burger and chips? These days, greasy fast food is simply not enough – milkshakes are topped with biscuits and fairy floss, croissants and donuts are ‘cronuts’ and burgers are loaded with more artery-clogging ingredients than you can poke a stick at. 

However, some of the Instagram-worthy mashups coming out of these food trends are enough to make you hurl. Case in point: this Adelaide restaurant’s lamington bacon cheeseburger.

Yes, you read that right. We’re talking two two beef patties, cheese and crispy bacon sandwiched between two true blue lamingtons.

The restaurant, Chuck Wagon 175, posted a photo of this monstrosity on Instagram with the caption, “Alright she’s on! Australia Day is coming and we’re rolling out the specials!”

“Double beef, double bacon, double cheese between two Aussie lamingtons! Say what you want, you know you love it! Available Australia day week!”

There’s no denying that sweet and salty are a winning taste combination, but social media users aren’t so sure about taking their greasy meat with a dessert in the same bite.

It’s not the first time Chuck Wagon 175 have triggered customers with their far out food combos. Last November, they debuted what can only be described as a ‘smores’ burger complete with two layers of Tim Tams, a layer of marshmallows and some sort of ‘chocolate crumb.’ 

As one Instagram user aptly commented, “that’s probably my whole months calories.”

It’s all well and good to keep wheeling out lamington bacon cheeseburgers for the sake of Instagram likes but my question is, where do we draw the line on all these jacked up food combos? 

Perhaps 2020 is the decade we go back to basics and champion the humble burger and fries once again.
