Grimes and Elon Musk’s child has been born and rumour has it that they’ve named him something outta this world – but what else did we expect from them. Coming back down to earth for a sec, the global pandemic has us doing our shopping mostly online, instead of at the grocery store.
Whilst copping my shopping for the month, I started thinking like a celebrity and took some pet/baby name inspo from our favourite grocery tabs. (Apple Martin- I’m lookin’ at you, sweetie.)
Fruit & Veg
Calling your tiny dependant Snow Pea will make all the other parents cry that they didn’t think of it. Similarly, Portobello is just as cute for a pet or a baby – and you can roll with Porto as a nickname. Bello is also beautiful boy in Italian, just saying. And one for the Harry Styles stans in the room – Kiwi. Gorgeous.
Deli & Bakery
Moving onto the Deli and Bakery section, you could opt for the name Pancetta or if you’re vegetarian, Halloumi could be a baby name option. Lots of nickname opportunities for Halloumi – Hal, Lou, Mimi? Also, COVID-19 isolation baking has made Sourdough a pretty decent option.
Fridge & Freezer
An iconic grocery aisle is the Fridge and Freezer aisle. Gonna need thick socks and a warm scarf because here comes Custard, Magnum and Nuttelex. 2/3 of these have vegan options if you’re into that.
Drinks & Liquor
Water brands are coming in clutch for pet and baby name inspiration. San Pellegrino is definitely a contender, as well as Voss. Baby Voss. Come here Voss, your dinner is ready! Big fan of Somersby for either a very small dog or a very, very big and bitchy cat.
Pantry & Household
I will give anything to have a lizard called Rigatoni. Toni for short? Pantry staple, Basmati could be the name of your bundle of joy if Jasmine doesn’t do it for you. Hear me out, naming your baby Ajax is gearing him up to be the CEO of a really groovy tech company one day. Right?
Health & Beauty
And finally – the health and beauty aisle. The essentials. I would name a rabbit Libra – it just feels CORRECT. Spearmint and Dettol sound beautiful and fresh, and I fully endorse them as names for your child or pet.
If you’re in the biz for a creative name, there’s clearly no need to look much further than the aisles (or tabs) of your grocery store of choice.
