5 Iso Travel Experiences To Satisfy Your Wunderlust From Home

Big pro: no jetlag.

We know that you’re missing travelling right now, that’s why we’ve whipped up five isolation travel experiences that you can do from your own home. Plot twist: they’re all incredibly fun.

While we’re on the subject of not travelling, we spoke about Virgin Australia during this COVID-19 pandemic on this episode of It’s Been A Big Day For…

Alright, let’s begin.

Wine Tours

Me at the wine tasting in my living room.

An interstate trip wouldn’t be complete without a good ol’ fashioned wine tasting. While sadly, cellar doors are closed in an attempt to slow the spread of COVID-19, some wine-tasting companies have gone online to keep the spirit alive. And thank God for that, because we have been waiting for a wine travel experience to come to our own homes for quite some time now.

For example, Taylors Wines from South Australia have launched a ‘Wine Time Online’ series, where wine fans can purchase a selection of beverages and join into a virtual tasting with others. How genius is that? If you’re keen, better get in quick because the tours start tomorrow.

Art Gallery Tours

Who doesn’t love a good art gallery? When hopping overseas, art galleries are usually at the top of everyone’s to-do list (thanks to TripAdvisor). But sadly, with travel severely limited at the moment, we’re unable to explore the ancient relics of international countries. But, have no fear, thanks to technology, these travel experiences can be electronically visited from the comfort of our literal homes. Now we can travel to these incredible museums, without the sore feet. So, where will you head to? The Rijksmuseum? The Musée d’Orsay? The British Museum? The options are endless.

Arts & Culture Shows

With writers and movie festivals being cancelled in an effort to slow the spread of coronavirus, we’re not getting as much culture as we’d like. We’re limited to Netflix series’ or History channel documentaries and some of us are craving a little bit more. If you fit into that category, allow us to recommend the Sydney Opera House’s From Our House to Yours initiative. Each night, the Sydney Opera House takes a deep dive into their archival footage and streams an event from the past few years. There are concerts, plays, talks and everything in between, so check out their roster for some amazing entertainment. And you thought there weren’t many options to experience travel wanderlust from home…

Virtual Theme Park Rides

Look, we know that now more than ever that you wish you were in Disneyland touring the new Marvel universe, but until travel restrictions are relaxed, you’ll have to find other ways to entertain yourself. Having said that, if you’re craving the theme-park travel experience, there are plenty of ways to replicate it at home. Why not make your own burgers, hot-dogs or popcorn and plop yourself in front of YouTube for some DIY fun. There are plenty of POV rides you can catch on YouTube, but BYO fan to simulate the wind hitting your face.

Virtual Walks

Now that gyms are pretty much closed, we’re forced to find other ways of exercising. This recommendation goes to all of you who decided to invest in a treadmill machine. Why not pretend you’re walking around famous landmarks instead of your local suburb. There are plenty of virtual walks of historical sites to go on, like Machu Picchu, the Grand Canyon and the Great Wall Of China. When this is all over, you’re never going to want to leave your house ever again.
