Frances Bean Cobain Shared An Original Song On The Anniversary of Kurt Cobain’s Death And Yes It Was About Him

The now deleted post proves once and for all that the famous rock heiress has singing chops and a vocal style worthy of our attention.

On the night before the 24th anniversary of Kurt Cobain’s passing, daughter Frances Bean took to Instagram to post a video we didn’t even know we needed until we were blessed with the magical and lyrical sound of her voice.

In the clip, the littlest Cobain sings an acapella verse of her original song, and allows her voice to start quietly and then build to a powerful crescendo of feels.

To say it wasn’t reminiscent of her father’s vocal abilities would be a lie. She is clearly Kurt Cobain’s daughter in body, mind, and soul.

While Frances has deleted the video from her Instagram account, you can check it out below.

Here’s a breakdown of the intense and tear-jerking lyrics.

“I think I saw you when I was small, I think I found you, a penny for your good thoughts, I think I found you, Jesus hangs in your place on the cross, all these hinges become unscrewed, heaven knows it was a cage on earth.”

We’re not crying, you’re crying!

After posting the clip, Frances popped into the comments section of the video and told a fan that there was more to the song, including the following “freaky line”:

“Stable sable sold her heart / No one asks her why she hides in a basket in her house in a box / Find a fiend who reigns supreme in May / Fast enough for blooming buds to lay their egg.”

While the caption to the clip made no mention of Kurt, Frances did allude to the importance of finding that which makes us happiest in life.

“A) there are so many memeable moments in this clip B) I’m SUPER restless because i can’t play guitar with long nails so I’m just sitting in my room alone singin to mah self C) not having a TV in my house is the best decision because I’m forced to occupy my time with things that feed my brain & soul instead of wasting energy on thinking about not having to think.”

This isn’t the first time Frances has teased us with her voice.

Just months ago the young singer posted a clip of herself crooning to her own version of “Hallelujah” by Leonard Cohen.

Two years earlier, she shared footage of herself singing Jimmy Eat World’s “The Middle”.

Clearly Frances has a good voice, and it’s got quite a bit of power behind it (I keep getting Tori Amos vibes), so, it begs the question – why did she delete the Kurt tribute post?

As the daughter of Courtney Love and Kurt Cobain, she was always going to receive a hefty dose of criticism and scrutiny no matter what area of music she delved into, but we know what her voice is capable of and we’ve heard it before.

For the most part, she’s had an extremely positive response from fans and critics.

Maybe it’s all just too sad?

Last year on the anniversary of what would’ve been his 50th birthday, Frances shared a handwritten note to her dad on Instagram.

While we’re all ears the next time Frances wants to share a tune, maybe she’ll feel better if she waits until she’s well and truly ready to show the world what she’s capable of.

Whether that’s today, tomorrow, or in thirty years, we’ll be right here, ready to listen.
