Kristen Stewart In A Queer Christmas Romcom Is The Best Gift Anyone Could Hope For

Making the Yuletide gayer.

We’re tragically short on amazing romantic comedies that happen to star same-sex couples, that’s for sure – and the Christmas romcom is a crucial, glorious subset of the genre, full of family hangups, gift misunderstandings, and people exclaiming that “It’s Christmas!” as if that explains acting like a damn fool.

Looking especially at these beige idiots.

Fortunately, Kristen Stewart is here to save us from another festive season where all the couples we see nearly breaking up over minor dramas that could have been sorted out with a simple conversation and then reuniting smoochily underneath mistletoe are, presumably, heterosexual.

Stewart, arguably Hollywood’s most mainstream non-Ellen queer, is in talks to star in a romcom written and directed by Clea Duvall – the actress and writer most famous for writing the definitely Lesbian Teen Comedy, But I’m A Cheerleader.

Happiest Season is apparently the story of a woman who’s planning a big public proposal, but then discovers  her girlfriend isn’t actually out to her conservative family.

It’s not confirmed which partner KStew will play, but I’m putting my money on the proposer, not the proposee, based on absolutely nothing at all.

Thus, I look forward to a solid hour-forty-five of Stewart wearing sharp blazers, sulking, gazing lovingly at her girlfriend from brooding corners with a smile threatening to emerge, and eventually giving a climactic public speech where she convinces the angry, confused dad that love is love.
