Kit Harington's 'Eternals' Character Is Basically Jon Snow 2.0

"He's got a sword, so, you know."

Kit Harington’s Jon Snow was lucky enough to survive everything that went down in Game of Thrones, and after playing a character for so long it would no doubt be quite difficult to move on with other roles.

Harington has been very lucky to find work with the people at Marvel with his new role as Dane Whitman/Black Knight in the Eternals movie, but it seems as though the character might not be quite as far from Jon Snow as he’d hoped.

While speaking at the NEXT Conference, the GoT star spoke about his next role, saying, “Now I’m going to do a Marvel movie. I’m going off to play a superhero, which is cool.

“Can’t really tell what I can say about it. […] So next year looks exciting. It’s trying to choose things… I’d say it’s trying to choose things as far from Jon Snow as possible, but I’m back to a superhero. He’s got a sword, so, you know.”

Yeah, so the Black Knight is pretty much Jon Snow 2.0.

Harington is clearly very excited to dive into the Marvel Cinematic Universe but it sounds like he’s expecting some comparisons between Black Knight and his GoT character.

Dane Whitman is a physicist who inherits his uncle’s castle and the Ebony Blade, a sword forged by Merlin of Camelot.

He’s not an Eternal, but he does have ties to the group in the comics. He even teams up with the Avengers at one point so it’s likely Harington will star in a number of MCU films.

He’ll also enjoy a reunion with former GoT co-star Richard Madden who stars as Ikaris in the film.

In the comics, Dane has a romantic relationship with Eternal Sersi, who is played by Gemma Chan in the movies. Chan has previously appeared in the MCU as Minn-Erva in Captain Marvel earlier this year.

Angelina Jolie also stars in the movie as Thena and is joined by Salma Hayek as Ajak, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Barry Keoghan as Druig, Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos, Lia McHugh as Sprite and Lauren Ridloff as Makkari.

The Eternals are powerful cosmic beings who were created by the Celestials to protect Earth from their evil counterparts, the Deviants.

Eternals will hit cinemas in November, 2020.
