It’s been a big day for… Listening to...

KFC Is Creating A Vegetarian Fried Chicken Burger But Forgets That Dirty Bird Without The Bird Is Just Dirty

Because nothing says ‘finger-lickin' good’ like a deep-fried glob of chicken-like vego mush.

KFC in the UK aren’t just making headlines for running out of food and throwing cities into a chicken-induced mass panic – now they’re stirring up a big bowl of controversy by giving you a seemingly healthier option the next time you have a craving for the dirty bird.

In their aim to provide customers with healthier options by 2020, the fast-food chain is looking to vege-fy (more like vege-fry, am I right?) your favourite meals instead of just adding a few healthy snacks to the menu or ridding their current options of all that extra sugar and salt.

Instead, they’ve decided to give a chicken-like ‘vegetarian option’ a go, as reported by The New York Times.

“Development of the recipe is still in its very early stages,” a spokesman for KFC said. “…the options we’re exploring in our kitchen are still top secret.”

Top secret just like your herbs and spices?

Once KFC feels they have perfected the vegetable-chicken recipe, they’ll aim to roll it out to test markets as soon as possible, and eventually launch the new menu item next year.

Sounds great.

While I understand vegetarians legitimately crave delicious junk food – I’m not sure how appetising a fake chicken burger will actually be…

Also, vego cravings aside, from a health perspective – how good can a fried vegetable chicken-like burger actually be for you?

The vegetarians want junk, KFC wants to provide healthier options to its customers…

Something tells me there’s a bit of a disconnect happening here.

Maybe there’s more to the story?

Maybe organic chicken bowls with sides of sustainably sourced fake gravy are next? Sweet potato fries sprinkled with vegan parmesan cheese instead of hot chips drowned in salt the way God intended?

But here’s a mind-frying fact for you. KFC in the UK doesn’t do the biggest KFC staple item of all time: mashed potato.

I know. I can’t believe it either.

So why not bring a little mash into the lives of these poor, deprived, British customers?

Give them a choice between mashed potato and fries – it’s the first and easiest step toward a healthier menu.
