Kanye West has a history of doing and saying extremely dumb stuff that makes you shake your head, especially when he goes all pro-Donald Trump on us.
Welp, he’s somehow managed to set a personal best on the “stupid stuff Kanye West does” meter during his latest appearance on Saturday Night Live, where he went full-blown, MAGA cap wearing, Trump supporter on all the poor souls who were with him in the same room.
Following the end of his show-closing performance of “Ghost Town”, West stayed onstage and went right into a big political speech about Trump, saying “So many times I talk to a white person, they say ‘How can you like Trump, he’s racist?’ Well, if I was so concerned about racism I would have moved out of America a long time ago.”
After that little show of brown-nosing, West then whinged about the “one-sided” and “liberal” state of the media before dropping a reference about his own presidential bid in 2020.
The whole thing is tone-deaf, awkward, uncomfortable, and yet unmissable, which seems to be an apt description of everything Kanye does these days.
But West wasn’t done with sharing his political philosophies just yet.
After that SNL appearance, the rapper boarded his private jet and sent out a flurry of tweets defending Trump’s isolationist market policies before throwing out the idea of repealing America’s 13th Amendment.
For those who are unaware, the 13th Amendment is the one that states slavery and involuntary servitude are big no nos. So in a nutshell, Kanye gave a thumbs up to slavery.
After sending out that slavery-supporting tweet, West seemed to backtrack a little bit by clarifying his position to be less about slavery and more about prison reform. It’s like he had some time to reflect on what he tweeted and came to the conclusion that “perhaps supporting slavery isn’t a good idea”.
this represents good and America becoming whole again. We will no longer outsource to other countries. We build factories here in America and create jobs. We will provide jobs for all who are free from prisons as we abolish the 13th amendment. Message sent with love pic.twitter.com/a15WqI8zgu

West’s political rants quickly caught the eye of Chris Evans, who went all Captain America on the rapper by taking him down a couple of notches on Twitter. You know you done goofed when you’ve forced Captain America to step into the Twitter ring.
There’s nothing more maddening than debating someone who doesn’t know history, doesn’t read books, and frames their myopia as virtue. The level of unapologetic conjecture I’ve encountered lately isn’t just frustrating, it’s retrogressive, unprecedented and absolutely terrifying. https://t.co/4jCFwB4T5U

So to recap Kanye’s week: he changed his name to “Ye”, he went on SNL and proceeded to spray his Trump supporter musk all over everyone, he appears to be keen on the idea of amending the Amendment that abolishes slavery, he’s drawn the ire of Captain America, and he’s proven to the world that he’s a victim of a dangerous form of contrarianism.
Welp, it certainly has been eventful to say the least.
I don’t know if it’s even possible to do anything dumber than what Kanye West has done these past few days, but hey, he’s proved us wrong time and time again.
