Kanye West seems to be making headlines of late for all the wrong reasons, from supporting Donald Trump, to saying slavery was a choice, to palling up with that weird group of young conservatives who wore adult nappies that one time to “own the libs”.
Depending on how you look at it, West seems to either be doing everything deliberately against the status quo for the sake of attention and contrarianism, or this is just the latest version of the same Kanye West we all know and love/hate.
It doesn’t help that West’s media appearances have been few and far between. Which makes his extended chat yesterday with US talk show host Jimmy Kimmel all the more fascinating.
The 20-minute conversation covers a variety of topics, from West’s fashion label to his mental illness to even his porn preferences.
However, the interview gets particularly uncomfortable when Kimmel corners West about his support of Donald Trump, whom West calls a “player”.Kimmel notes that West’s newfound ethos of love hasn’t changed Trump’s policy of family separations on the US Border, asking West directly:
You’ve so famously and so powerfully said ‘George Bush doesn’t care about black people,’ it makes me wonder what makes you think that Donald Trump does, or any people at all?
West is left speechless, with Kimmel left with nothing else to do than to cut to a break.
The whole thing is incredibly uncomfortable, yet absolutely captivating.
Of course, Trump has already taken to his platform of choice, Twitter, to show his gratitude for Kanye’s “support”.
Thank you to Kanye West and the fact that he is willing to tell the TRUTH. One new and great FACT – African American unemployment is the lowest ever recorded in the history of our Country. So honored by this. Thank you Kanye for your support. It is making a big difference!

Make of that what you will.
