Julia Gillard Now Has Her Own Podcast, And Other Lessons In How To Leave Politics Gracefully

Doing something positive with her profile rather than griping about the past like a salty ex-partner.

It’s been a few years since Julia Gillard was our Prime Minister and she’s largely kept herself busy with various other projects, some unrelated to politics and some still within the Auspol realm, like the recent unveiling of her official PM portrait that was overshadowed by Tony Abbott looking like a lost muppet.

She’s definitely been something of a class act since retiring from politics in 2013 and has since done a number of positive things, like working with Camfed, joining the board of Beyond Blue, and somehow being BFFs with Rihanna. With her latest endeavour, it is another feather in the cap marked “rocking my post-politics career”.

The former PM has announced the launch of a brand new podcast series titled A Podcast of One’s Own with Julia Gillard, which is being launched by the Global Institute For Women’s Leadership (of which she is Chair) and focuses the issue of the lack of women in leadership roles. Each episode (released monthly) will involve Julia discussing this topic with a number of female guests from a variety of occupations, such as entertainment, business, sport, activism, and of course, politics.

It’s definitely sounds like a corker given how prevalent this issue is in 2019 and is a perfect example on how to leave politics gracefully, unlike what her fellow retired PMs are doing.

Malcolm Turnbull has harboured enough salt to ruin a farmer’s crop for life ever since the 2018 Libspill, Tony Abbott copped a massive payrise after being voted out of his seat of Warringah last election and yet insists on hanging around for some reason, and Kevin Rudd is doing his own thing but can’t resist spilling the occasional cup of tea on Reddit every now and again.

Maybe these three should team up for a podcast. Now that would be a hoot.
