John Travolta Mistaking A Drag Queen For Taylor Swift Isn't The First Time He's Cooked An Award Show

Cue Delta's 'Mistaken Identity.'

John Travolta is talented in many ways. He’s an award-winning actor with a career that spans over 45 years, he’s a pilot, an author, and in recent times, he’s nailed the art of embracing male pattern hair loss. Award shows, on the other hand? Not his forte.

Yesterday, the 65-year-old actor appeared on stage at the 2019 VMAs to present the award for Video of the Year to Taylor Swift

The award-winning video for Swift’s track ‘You Need To Calm Down’ features a huge cast of LGBT icons, including YouTuber Hannah Hart, actress Laverne Cox, singer Hayley Kiyoko, actor Jesse Tyler Ferguson, figure skater Adam Rippon and Ellen DeGeneres, just to name a few.

The video also features a cameo from drag queen and Taylor Swift impersonator Jade Jolie, who joined the singer, and the rest of the cast, on-stage to accept the award.

However, things got truly awkward when Travolta went to hand the award to Jolie, instead of Swift. Cue ‘Mistaken Identity’ by Delta Goodrem.

What makes the whole thing even more cringeworthy is the fact that isn’t the first time John Travolta has totally cooked it at an award show.

At the 2014 Oscars, the actor appeared on-stage to introduce ‘Let It Go’ singer Idina Menzel and not only pronounced her name completely wrong, but gave her a new name altogether.

“Here to perform the Oscar-nominated, gorgeously empowering song ‘Let It Go’ from the Oscar-winning animated movie Frozen, please welcome the wickedly talented Adele Dazeem,” he said.

Who is Adele Dazeem, John!?

All this teaches us is that John Travolta desperately needs to be briefed before he walks on-stage at another award show, and Jade Jolie is a DAMN GOOD Taylor Swift impersonator who should be proud as punch right now.
